Pickleball in Urbana, Ohio
Urbana has both outdoor public pickleball and recurring indoor organized play. Melvin Miller Park has a completed pickleball court area near the tennis and sand volleyball courts, and the Champaign Family YMCA runs scheduled indoor groups several days each week. For someone coming alone, the YMCA is the clearer route into an existing game.
Where to Play in Urbana
-
Melvin Miller Park
731 Childrens Home Road, Urbana, OH 43078
The city completed a dedicated pickleball playing area at Melvin Miller Park as part of a resurfacing project funded through an Ohio NatureWorks grant and local support. The courts are near the tennis courts and sand volleyball area. The city does not publish a recurring open play schedule for the park, so this is most dependable when you already have partners. See Melvin Miller Park information.
-
Champaign Family YMCA
191 Community Drive, Urbana, OH 43078
The YMCA offers recurring indoor pickleball with separate playing groups. Intermediate and advanced players meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Beginner and intermediate play is scheduled Friday from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. YMCA members play free, and non-members can participate for a $5 drop-in fee. See the current YMCA pickleball schedule.
New to Pickleball?
New players should start with the Friday beginner and intermediate group at the Champaign Family YMCA. The 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM session gives someone learning the game a scheduled setting with other players instead of requiring them to organize their own group.
The YMCA also offers pickleball clinics and leagues at different times during the year. Players looking for individual instruction can use the Coaches section.
Regular Games and Leagues
The Champaign Family YMCA provides Urbana's most dependable recurring organized play. Intermediate and advanced sessions run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, and beginner and intermediate players have a Friday evening session from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. See current pickup play information.
The YMCA also runs seasonal pickleball leagues. Its 2026 programming included a Sunday team league using an MLP-style format with rotating start times and an end-of-season tournament. See YMCA league information.
Melvin Miller Park provides outdoor court access, though the city does not currently publish a fixed weekly paddle rotation or open play schedule there.
Playing in Urbana as a Visitor
If you are traveling alone, start with one of the scheduled Champaign Family YMCA pickleball sessions. Non-members can participate for the $5 drop-in fee, and the published group times give you a much better chance of getting into games than arriving at an unscheduled outdoor court.
If you already have partners and want to play outdoors, head to Melvin Miller Park at 731 Childrens Home Road. The city pickleball area is established there, though ordinary public court access should not be confused with organized open play.
